Long-Range Planning Section

The Long-Range Planning Section works closely with communities, property owners, municipalities, businesses, and institutional partners to implement Plan 2035 General Plan-Blueprint for Tomorrow, prepare comprehensive area master or sector plans and to assist in the development of functional master plans. This more traditional planning and zoning work include the creation or refinement of master plans and comprehensive rezoning for a wide variety of locations, from large rural areas of the County to specific Purple Line Light Rail stations or WMATA Metro stations

Updates

  • On November 10, 2020, the County Council approved the initiation of the Adelphi Road-UMGC/UMD Purple Line Station Area Sector Plan; as well as the approval of the project’s Recommended Goals, Concepts and Guidelines and the Public Participation Program.
  • On October 29, 2020, the Prince George’s County Planning Board initiated the Adelphi Road-UMGC/UMD Purple Line Station Area Sector Plan. The Planning Board’s plan initiation coincided with the transmittal to the District Council for its initiation and approval of the project’s Recommended Goals, Concepts and Guidelines, the Public Participation Program; as well as a four-month extension to prepare the preliminary sector plan.
  • On October 13, 2020, the County Council approved the initiation of the West Hyattsville-Queens Chapel Sector Plan; as well as the approval of the project’s Recommended Goals, Concepts and Guidelines and the Public Participation Program.
  • On September 17, 2020, the Prince George’s County Planning Board approved the initiation of the West Hyattsville-Queens Chapel Sector Plan.

  • On July 21, 2020, the County Council passed CR-83-2020, initiating a minor amendment for the Southern Green Line Station Area Development District Overlay Zone.
  • On June 13, 2020, Section staff hosted the kickoff meeting for the Bowie-Mitchellville and Vicinity Master Plan. To find out more about this plan and how you can participate, click here.
  • The Active Community Plans Application shows the plans that are currently active and applicable to any given property. It also links to the plan’s publication page, where you can view and download the community plan. If a plan does not appear on this map, it is no longer applicable.
